The Mbale City Service Commission has suspended interviews for applicants vying for various vacant positions in the education department, including the position of City Education Officer. While interviews for other departments were conducted last week, those for the education department were halted.

According to James Kutosi, the Public Relations Officer of Mbale City, the suspension followed a directive from the Equal Opportunities Commission, a government body that advocates for equality. Kutosi explained that the acting City Education Officer, Linus Nasimiyu, who is currently on interdiction, appealed to the Equal Opportunities Commission upon learning that her position and other posts within her department had been advertised.

Nasimiyu argued that Mbale City was taking advantage of her interdiction to advertise her position unfairly. “She reported to the Equal Opportunities Commission, where she appealed,” Kutosi said, adding that the commission subsequently wrote to the Mbale City Service Commission, instructing them to suspend interviews specifically for the education department.

Kutosi confirmed receiving the letter and stated that the City Service Commission would comply with the directive as they await further guidance-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
