Residents of Kyarumba in Kasese District, who were affected by a devastating landslide in March, have begun receiving relief supplies as part of efforts to help them rebuild their lives. The distribution exercise was carried out in Kyarumba Town Council, where several organizations, including Caritas Kasese, Centenary, and other Catholic relief agencies, delivered essential items to affected families.

The aid package includes iron sheets, blankets, mattresses, and other household necessities aimed at supporting recovery and resettlement efforts among survivors of recurring landslide disasters in the area. Several million shillings have already been allocated to support the affected households, according to organizers involved in the relief exercise. Local church leader Rev. Fr. Mbusa Anyasio urged beneficiaries to use the assistance responsibly and avoid selling or misusing the items provided.

He noted that repeated disasters in the area have made it difficult for many families to rebuild their livelihoods, stressing the importance of proper use of the relief support. From the relief team, Doreen Biira of Caritas Kasese emphasized the need for honesty and accountability among beneficiaries, urging them to use the supplies strictly for rebuilding their homes and restoring stability.

Many of the affected residents expressed gratitude for the assistance. Kyaligonza Francis said they were initially hopeless after the disaster, but the support had restored hope and given them a fresh start. Augustine Bwambale, another beneficiary, said he received iron sheets, blankets, mattresses, and a tape measure to help him restart his life after his home was destroyed by landslides in 2024.

The relief efforts form part of ongoing humanitarian response initiatives aimed at supporting communities in Kasese that continue to face the impact of recurring landslides-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
