A 42-year-old man has been jailed for 40 years for aggravated defilement.
Court presided over by Justice Boniface Wamala, heard that on the 16th March, 2020, Alex Eyalu, a resident of Oderai Ward, in Soroti City West, defiled a 6-year-old girl. The results from the hospital examination that were produced in court indicated that the minor was involved in sexual intercourse, and her hymen was ruptured.
Betty Akello, the victim’s mother, told the Court that on the day of the incident, she had left her child sleeping inside the house and gone to the market.
When she returned home, she found the child crying, and while bathing her, she found blood oozing out of the baby’s private part.
Eyalu pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, alleging that he committed the act under the devil’s influence.
The state prosecutor, Doreen Adero, informed the Court that the accused deserved a maximum sentence of death.
