A 23-year-old security guard has been remanded to Luzira Prison for allegedly murdering a Kampala-based hawker at BMK Plaza on Nabugabo Road. Ian Mugisha, an employee of Security 2000 and a resident of Nateete Kutano Zone in Lubaga Division, Kampala, appeared before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on Friday evening and was charged with one count of murder.
Senior Principal Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko did not allow Mugisha to enter a plea because murder is a capital offence that can only be tried by the High Court. Prosecution alleges that on July 10, 2026, at BMK Plaza, Mugisha unlawfully caused the death of Ali Nasul with malice aforethought.
Court documents indicate that Mugisha was on duty guarding the premises at around 4:00pm when Nasul arrived to sell wipes. The prosecution alleges that Mugisha confronted him for hawking goods without permission, leading to a disagreement.
It is alleged that during the confrontation, Mugisha stabbed Nasul in the chest with a knife he was carrying, causing fatal injuries. The court heard that police were notified, visited the scene, arrested the suspect and conveyed the deceased’s body to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Prosecution further alleges that Mugisha admitted to killing the hawker during police interrogation. Mugisha, who appeared emotional during the court session, was remanded to Luzira Prison until August 4, 2026, as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the same court also remanded a farmer, Abel Kinyogote, alias Kinimba, over allegations of stealing Shs623 million belonging to Victoria Phonaxis Limited.
Kinyogote, a resident of Kilimambogo Cell, Buloba Parish in Wakiso Sub-county, Wakiso District, was charged with theft under Sections 237(1) and 244 of the Penal Code Act, Cap. 128. Prosecution alleges that Kinyogote, together with other suspects still at large, stole the money on May 21, 2025, from Equity Bank, Church House Branch on Kampala Road. He was remanded to Luzira Prison until July 29, 2026, as police continue with investigations-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
