Security operatives comprising the police and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) on Tuesday carried out a second search at the Nakasero residence of outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Among as investigations into alleged corruption continue.
During the operation, at least four vehicles said to be linked to Among were loaded onto a Uganda Police carrier and removed from the residence.
Among the vehicles taken was a Mercedes-Maybach bearing a personalised number plate, AAA, initials widely associated with Anita Among. Also impounded was a Lexus, registration number UBP704Y.
The vehicles were reportedly transferred to the Naguru Forensic Directorate for analysis as part of the ongoing probe.
By the time of filing this report, two more vehicles, registration numbers UA 630BE and UBH 138W, were being prepared for loading onto a police flatbed carrier.
City lawyer Caleb Alaka and another lawyer were seen entering the Bukedea Woman MP’s residence during the operation. Journalists, however, were barred from accessing the gate as security maintained a tight cordon around the premises-URN.
