We all ought to remember Paul Akamba, the Namutumba MP who last year was violently arrested by mean-looking security operatives shortly after he had been released on court bail.
This was at the anti-corruption court based in Wandegeya. He had been jailed with Cissy Namujju and others for soliciting bribes from accounting officers who would appear before the budget committee of parliament.
He had been given bail with other MPs but Akamba is the only one who was brutally rearrested and beaten badly outside the judge’s offices. He was carried away in a drone.
Many wondered why the president would allow all this persecution to happen to his vocal cadre from Namutumba.
It has now emerged that Paul Akamba was being revenged upon for fearlessly taking on the president during the NRM caucus meeting in Entebbe.
That meeting had been called for the president to persuade NRM MPs to pass a very stringent law that would restrict bail.
In the meeting, a group of NRM MPs stood up to the president and assured him they would not ko-tow in his pohoo and these were led by Akamba who spoke loudest.
Akamba spoke so fluently that fellow MPs clapped and praised his name while saying no to the president.
This angered Museven who looked forward for a perfect opportunity to revenge and demonstrate to Akamba that he was a nobody.
Indeed, this chance came to pass when the big man’s supporters in the military stormed the court at Wandegeya, rearrested and beat up Akamba who was sent back to detention for more additional weeks as his fellow co-accused roamed around freely even when they were on the same charges.
