By KT Reporter

On Tuesday morning of 6th Feb 2025, participants in the principal safety, health & environment officer job interviews at Uganda Railways Corporation revolted at URC offices at the Nalukolongo workshop after realizing that one of the people they are competing with Richard Nkuna is actually a member of URC board, and the brother to one of the ministers in Museveni’s government in the works & transport area.

Participants took to social media claiming that the results had already been rigged in favor of the board member since fellow directors are the ones who set the questions.

The board member was encouraged by another former board member, also a former MP on the committee which used to supervise URC, who left the director position and became the chief mechanical engineer for URC.

The former MP has managed to make a lot of money in such a short time and he is now set to win back his seat, which is encouraging Richard Nkuna to follow suit. The participants in the interview exercise at Nalukolongo are claiming that another applicant bragged to them to have paid 15m to one of the influential board members to share with others to ensure that he gets the job without fail. They also want the IGG to look into this issue to investigate Richard Nkuna for conflict of interest.

Some time back, the desk controller job which is a very sensitive duty as it controls train movement, was also decided upon by well-known URC corporation owners like the flamboyant head of operations, Chairman board, and head of finance and admin, which left many other people very bitter.

The disgruntled applicants now want the IGG to task the corporation’s newly appointed senior officer in human resources to answer the hard questions. And the URC corporation has been struggling to overcome image reputation problems because of too many scandals.

The public has been complaining about unreliable commuter train services and a wide range of corruption scandals the most recent of them being the exorbitant deal to lease locomotives and this is all being secretly revived by the big-time blocker who sits in the management and has managed to influence the board on many decisions that have left the newly appointed managing director to struggle to assert himself and avoid being overshadowed.

Another powerful head of department at URC is considered to be very powerful to the point of summoning board members, some of whom want to resign in protest because they now see URC as a sinking ship. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
