Global consumer goods company, Reckitt Benckiser, has partnered with Chil Group, a Ugandan health and hygiene innovator, to promote health and hygiene among children across Africa. Reckitt, a global leader in nutritional, health, and hygiene products, is known for its popular brands such as Dettol, Harpic, and JIK.
Chil Group’s collaboration with Reckitt began in 2023 when Reckitt through its WINFUND program which it co-founded with Health Innovation Exchange, invested in the telemedicine company. Chil Group founder, Dr. Shamim Nabuuma has overseen this initiative’s growth as the two set a common goal of improving health and hygiene for school children across Africa.
The idea behind this new collaboration is to transform hygiene in schools by focusing on the Dettol Hygiene Quest Program, which aims at better hygiene facilities and impactful education. In Phase One, the program will reach 1,500 schools across Uganda, setting the stage for even bigger efforts across Sub-Saharan Africa and ensuring long-lasting results for schools, communities, and children.
Cooperation between the two started when in 2023 Reckitt supported Chil’s telemedicine projects, according to Dr. Nabuuma. “Now, this renewed commitment with the Dettol Hygiene Quest Program allows us to tackle a key challenge related to hygiene education for school-aged children,” she says, adding, “Together, we will educate, empower, and inspire school children, instilling healthy hygiene habits.”
The activities to be undertaken include empowering children between ages five and eight, teachers, and families, with practical knowledge about hygiene and how to sustain it.: It is hoped that this partnership blends Chil Group’s innovative approach with Reckitt’s deep experience in health and hygiene education to create “real, lasting change in Uganda and beyond”.
Reckitt says this is in line with their vision. “We strive to improve the hygiene, health, and nutrition of people across the globe. We’re committed to using our brands, programs, and partnerships to make the world a cleaner, healthier place for all.” Chil uses it to create digital-based solutions that support agriculture production, health, and financial services. It also provides free breast cancer Tele- consultations with a target to reach 10,000 women in Uganda-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
