President Yoweri Museveni has urged stakeholders in tourism sector to prioritize protection of environment in the process of developing Uganda’s tourism.
In his speech delivered by Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, the president noted that climate change, deforestation and pollution affect the eco-system which negatively affects environment and tourism.
He encouraged tourism stakeholders to always champion protection of environment in any activities that they intend to perform.
On Saturday, Uganda joined the international community in celebrating World Tourism Day under the global theme: Tourism and Sustainable Transformation. The national celebration was hosted by Arua City.
This was an opportunity for West Nile through promotion of tourist attraction sites in the region under the explore campaign, one of the activities to mark the celebration.
During the presentation of FY 2025/26 national budget, Minister of Finance, Matia Kasaija, said that government commits to improve funding to the sector.
Sports and entertainment tourism are among the key sectors that government plans to improve as they support the sector. This, according the president’s speech, will position the country on the global map to attract more tourisms.
The 2024 Tourism Performance report released in April this year by Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, indicated that the country’s performance increased by 7.7% in the international arrivals and a 25.9% surge in tourism earnings. A total of 1,371,895 international visitors were received in Uganda, recovering to 89.2% of pre-pandemic levels, according to the report.
