President Yoweri Museveni has challenged religious and cultural leaders to mobilize their communities to actively participate in wealth creation initiatives aimed at achieving economic transformation.

The President emphasized that institutional leaders who are not committed to advocating for poverty eradication are, in effect, working against the goals of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government. He questioned how spiritual and traditional leaders can claim moral authority yet fail to offer practical guidance on improving livelihoods.

While inspecting farmers benefiting from the Parish Development Model (PDM) program in the districts of Kasese, Ntoroko, and Bundibugyo, Museveni said he was impressed by individuals in rural areas who have independently taken steps to improve their household incomes.

Museveni urged communities in the Rwenzori sub-region to maintain peace as a foundation for achieving long-term socio-economic transformation.

Meanwhile, the Bwamba County Member of Parliament, Richard Gafabusa, appealed to the President to fulfill his pledge of constructing a cocoa factory in the district.

He said such an initiative would support value addition and create employment opportunities for the local population.
