Minister David Bahati Defeated in NRM Party Primaries

David Bahati, Minister of State for Trade, has lost National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primaries for Ndorwa West County in Kabale District. Bahati lost to Kampala-based lawyer Eliab Naturinda Mporera.

Barbra Ainebyoona, Kabale District NRM Party registrar, declared Naturinda winner in the wee hours of Friday morning with 25,027 votes, representing 50.9 percent.

Bahati garnered 23,759 votes, representing 48.3 percent. Edwards Mwesigwa polled only 416 votes, representing 0.8 per cent.

Speaking to journalists after being declared the winner, a 37-year-old Naturinda described his victory as a victory for all of the Ndorwa West residents. He committed to serving Ndorwa West County with honesty, transparency, and dedication.

He called for unity within the NRM, urging all party members to rally together for the greater good of the constituency. Bahati has been a member of Parliament for Ndorwa West County since 2006.

Meanwhile, Fortunate Habyara Gatete, former Commissioner of the Uganda police force, has been declared the winner for Bufumbira North constituency.

Tadeo Mulyambere, Kisoro district returning officer declared Habyara in the wee hours of Friday morning with 11,947 defeating the incumbent Nizeyimana, who got 6,313 votes.
