The police in Albertine are investigating the circumstances under which a police trainer attached to Kabalye police training school in Masindi allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself.

The deceased has been identified as James Tembo, 29, an instructor at Kabalye police training school. The incident happened on Wednesday at around 2:30 p.m. within the training school in Masindi district.

Police reports reveal that police constable Francis Onek entrusted Tembo with his gun. However, a few minutes after he handed over his gun, Tembo reportedly used the gun to end his life.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, says it is not yet clear why Tembo decided to end his life. He says that the gun with 28 live ammunition has been recovered and exhibited.

According to Hakiza, they have apprehended Onek to help them with investigations.

He says plans are underway to transport the deceased’s body to his home district in Kasese.
