A Makindye east voter by the names of Miiya Hamza has written to the electoral commission demanding for the cancellation of Ali Kasirye Nganda Mulyanyama’s nomination for the area MP seat.
He says that Mulyanyama, who is a NUP flag bearer, was erroneously nominated by the EC because he doesn’t have the requisite academic qualifications.
The petitioner, whose complain was duly received by the EC on 7th November, says that Mulyanyama, who claims to have studied and qualified at Kampala students center near Kisekka market, didn’t qualify for admission into A’level because his perfomance was very poor and he didn’t get the pass mark, which is the minimum requirement to be admitted in S5.
The other concern the petitioner raises is that at nominations, Mulyanyama produced his A’level or UACE results slip and not the UNEB-issued UACE certificate, which is required under the relevant laws governing elections and nominations in Uganda.
It remains to be seen how Mulyanyama will be defending himself against this latest obstacle to his candidature. His removal from the race will be bad news to NUP, which gets 100m per year for every MP it gets in parliament under the IPOD arrangement.
