FDC Michael Maganda has earned 22 votes to win this term’s Jinja South Division seat for the male representative of Persons Living with disabilities-PWDs.

Maganda contested with four others namely the incumbent, Swaleh Mulondo of NRM, Ismael Walimbwa of NUP and independent candidates; Ronald Kazingilizi and Richard Kigenyi, respectively.

Mudondo and Kazingilizi earned 15 votes each to settle in the second place, Kigenyi scored two votes, whereas, Walimbwa finished fifth with one vote.

The election conducted at the Kakindu stadium attracted 55 votes from different cells across South division.

The election was characterized with contestations in the early hours of voting, with candidates accusing each other of voter bribery.

This partially delayed the electoral process for about two hours, however, the polling officials started the voting exercise, without further interruptions.

Meanwhile, Mulondo, who has served as a councilor for the past 20 years noted that, the process was free and fair, which enabled the best candidate to win. “I I am convinced that, the best candidate in this race has won,” he said.

Mulondo urged his successor to prioritize avenues of lobbying for safe spaces for PWDs to freely participate in income generating activities, which will enable them to profit from the money economy.

Meanwhile, Margret Kayaga who contested as an independent candidate defeated NRM’s Harriet Kauma to win the seat of female Southern division councilor for PWDs.

This race attracted two candidates, where Kayaga won with 31 votes, whereas, Kauma came in second with 24 votes.
