Edward Ssebufu, popularly known as Eddie Mutwe, the chief bodyguard of National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, is expected to appear at Masaka High Court this afternoon to face undisclosed charges.
Ssebufu, who was reportedly abducted by security operatives from Mukono District on April 27, 2025, was held incommunicado for days until last week, when Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Museveni, acknowledged that he had been detained in his basement.
Last week, the Uganda Human Rights-UHRC Chairperson, Mariam Wangandya directed General Muhoozi to release Eddie Mutwe, saying he was being held in violation of the law. Today, Sebufu, who appeared to be struggling to walk, was supported by two plain-clothed security operatives as he limped towards the court cells.
He is expected to be charged with an undisclosed offence. Security operatives, who dropped him at court, barred journalists from approaching or covering his case-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
