Residents of Igombe Village in Kagoma Town Council, Jinja District, are in shock following the discovery of the body of an unidentified male adult dumped in their area. The body, which had deep cuts on the head and other parts of the body, raised suspicion that the deceased may have been attacked by a group of assailants, possibly while attempting to resist.

Residents noted that there were no visible blood stains at the scene, suggesting that the victim may have been killed elsewhere and later dumped in the village as a cover-up. The body was later taken to Buwenge Health Centre IV mortuary, pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death and identity of the deceased.

Stella Kigaya, a resident who lives about 20 metres from the scene and also serves as the vice chairperson of the village women’s council, said she did not hear any commotion that could have indicated a violent attack. She added that although the community has established vigilante groups to monitor security, no suspicious activity was reported before the incident. Kigaya has called on police to carry out thorough investigations and bring the suspects to justice.

Another resident, Monica Mulowoza, said the body was found about 30 metres from the trading centre, noting that if the crime had occurred nearby, it would likely have been noticed. Mulowoza further speculated that the suspects may have used a motor vehicle or motorcycle to dump the body before fleeing the area. She also raised concerns that the village’s location along the Jinja–Kamuli highway makes it vulnerable to such incidents, as criminals may easily use the route to dump bodies at night and escape undetected.

Meanwhile, the Kiira Regional Police Spokesperson, James Mubi, confirmed that a canine unit was deployed at the scene and managed to track the suspects’ scent for about one kilometre, a lead he described as crucial to ongoing investigations. Mubi added that preliminary findings suggest the deceased could be a motorist who may have been targeted by criminals posing as travellers. He urged motorists to exercise caution, especially when dealing with or picking up passengers at night, warning that some individuals may have malicious intentions-URN.
