Balam Barugahara, the State Minister for Children and Youth Affairs has implored the youth across the country to join the fight against corruption that he says has crippled service delivery.
Speaking during the launch of the National catholic youth conference at Bujumbura Cathedral in Hoima City on Wednesday, Barugahara challenged the youth to actively combat corruption and ensure that Uganda is a corruption-free country.
He says the youth can play a pivotal role in causing accountability in various government entities stressing that it is their responsibility to shape a corruption-free society.
He emphasized the critical importance of youth involvement in shaping a transparent and accountable society tasking the youth to interest themselves and seek the accountability of any resources that the government allocates to the various entities.
Barugahara advised the youths to embrace the available government programs such as PDM, UWEP and the Youth livelihood to enhance their welfare and boost their household incomes.
The minister further warned the youth against excessive consumption of alcohol stating that it is one of the factors destroying their future and that it deters development but rather get engaged in productive ventures.
He too tasked the youth to embrace vocational studies that will equip them with crucial skills that will make them become job creators but not seekers hence fighting unemployment.
Archbishop of Kampala Diocese Paul Ssemogerere appealed to the youth not to get involved in immoral acts like prostitution, political protests, theft, drug addiction and homosexuality among others.
He tasked the youth to be agents of positive change and become role models in their communities after the conference adding that they should be neat, smart and accept to be led by the holy spirit.
Gervase Ndyanabo, the National head of laity Uganda appealed to the youth to have hope in the lord and that they should set up goals in order to succeed in future.
Joyce Zako, the National Youth Coordinator Uganda Episcopal Conference is optimistic that the conference will provide appropriate career guidance to the youth.
More than 10,000 youth from across the country have converged at Bujumbura Cathedral in Hoima City for the National Catholic Youth Conference that kicked off on Tuesday.
Hoima Catholic Diocese which falls under Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province is hosting this year’s National catholic youth Conference celebrations from December 10th to December 15th 2024 at our Lady of Lourdes Bujumbura Cathedral in Hoima City.
The National Catholic Youth Conference, organized annually by the Uganda Episcopal Conference, brings together young people from across the country to share ideas, experiences, challenges, and opportunities.
The conference also provides career guidance to help youth make informed decisions, instils gospel values, and fosters patriotism.
It serves as a transformative experience, inspiring many attendees to lead morally upright lives and become role models in their communities.
The annual event is always rotational in the four different ecclesiastical provinces under the catholic church
This year’s conference theme is “Those who hope in the Lord will run and will not be weary” (Isaiah 40:31).
