The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) is tracing families of 39 deceased soldiers from the Bunyoro sub-region whose savings in Wazalendo SACCO Limited remain unclaimed.

The soldiers include 16 from Masindi, 14 from Hoima, eight from Kibaale and one from Kiryandongo.

The exercise is part of a nationwide campaign by Wazalendo SACCO to identify relatives and rightful beneficiaries of deceased members and help them access money left in their accounts.

Lt. Col. Akasius Mpabaisi, the Political Commissar of Wazalendo SACCO, told Uganda Radio Network (URN) that the force is working to trace the families and update its records.

He appealed to residents in the affected districts to check the names of deceased soldiers and alert relatives who may not know that their family members had savings with the SACCO.“We are trying to trace the relatives of our deceased members so that they can come and claim their savings,” Mpabaisi said.

He said the exercise is intended to prevent money belonging to deceased members from remaining indefinitely in SACCO accounts because their beneficiaries cannot be traced.

Mpabaisi said Wazalendo SACCO management has been moving across the country to identify beneficiaries and reconcile its records.

.“This money belongs to the families, and we want to make sure that it reaches the rightful beneficiaries,” Mpabaisi said.

He urged residents in Bunyoro to provide any information that could help the SACCO identify the families of the 39 soldiers.

The tracing exercise is part of a wider effort by Wazalendo SACCO to update its records and ensure that savings belonging to deceased members are transferred to their rightful beneficiaries-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
