Uganda has taken part in HOTELEX Shanghai 2026, with the Embassy in Beijing setting up a national booth under the theme “From the Source of the Nile to the Streets of Shanghai.” The showcase featured Ugandan coffee, tea and dairy products, targeting buyers in China’s hospitality and retail sectors.
The exhibition is aimed at linking Ugandan exporters to Chinese buyers, including hotel groups, distributors and e-commerce platforms. It comes ahead of a zero-tariff policy expected to take effect in May 2026, which is set to boost Uganda’s agricultural exports to China.
At the booth, visitors took part in coffee cupping sessions, sampling both Arabica and Robusta varieties. A trade desk was also set up to guide buyers on import procedures and potential partnerships, alongside cultural performances highlighting Uganda’s heritage.
Uganda’s Ambassador to China, Oliver Wonekha, said the showcase offers an opportunity to present Uganda’s products and strengthen trade links with China.
Officials say the initiative is part of efforts to improve market access for Ugandan producers and build direct trade relationships with international buyers.
Uganda is positioning its agricultural exports in premium markets, with a focus on quality and value addition, as it seeks to grow its presence in China.
