A traffic officer was killed after being struck by a Toyota Hiace (UA 922BQ) at the Doko Fika Salama traffic checkpoint in Mbale on February 27, 2026. According to Rogers Taitika, Elgon region police spokesperson, the victim, PC Namitego Emmanuel, was on duty when the vehicle, heading from Kamonkoli to Mbale City, hit him.
The driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was pulled from the vehicle and lynched by an angry mob. PC Namitego’s body has been taken to Mbale City Mortuary, and the vehicle has been impounded at the police yard as authorities investigate the incident.
