Sebino Primary School in Namisindwa District has closed following a severe storm that struck Bukiabi sub-county. The storm, which hit on Tuesday, destroyed four classrooms, affecting 264 learners.
The affected classrooms include Primary One, Two, Three, and Five. However, no injuries were reported, as students and staff had been sent home before the storm intensified. The school’s staff room was also destroyed, prompting calls for immediate government assistance.
The head teacher, Bernard Mafabi, stated that students have been sent home temporarily due to the lack of suitable space for lessons. Bukiabi sub-county LCIII Chairperson, Nicholas Soita, reported that over 30 homes and crops, including bananas, cassava, and coffee, were also damaged in the area.
Alex Molokoi, the Area Councilor, and Education Secretary, instructed sub-county leaders to document the damages and submit a report to the district disaster committee and the Ministry of Disaster in Kampala. John Musila, the Bubulo East Member of parliament has urged district leaders to forward the disaster report to his office for submission to the Ministry of Disaster for appropriate action-URN.
