Sheikh Musa Khalil, the Northern Regional Assistant to the Mufti, has cautioned young boys and girls on the importance of sexual morality and purity.
While addressing the Muslim community during an Iftar dinner organized by Airtel Uganda in Gulu City, Khalil noted a rising trend of sexual immorality among the youth in the region, attributing it to a diminishing value placed on virginity.
He further pointed out that the lifestyles of young people, including contemporary music and dance styles, expose young girls to sexual immorality.
Khalil emphasized that virginity, especially for women, is a symbol of purity and honor, closely tied to a woman’s worth and family reputation. He urged girls to guard their virginity. “Virginity, particularly for unmarried women, is a marker of sexual purity and a sign of a woman’s worth and honor. The loss of virginity can impact a woman’s prospects, including marriage,” Khalil explained.
He further referenced a saying of the Messenger of God: “Say to the woman that one will not enter in a state of old age, but God will make all the women of Jannah young virgins. God Most High says, ‘Lo! We have created them a (new) creation and made them virgins, lovers, equal in age.’” Khalil also highlighted a Quranic reference in Surah Al-Waqiah (56:35-37), stressing the significance of virginity and purity before marriage.
He clarified that in Islam, virginity is not a condition for marriage but is a recommended quality. If a person has the option between two women of equal standing in all other aspects, virginity may be considered-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
