Uganda’s She Cranes produced a commanding performance to defeat Trinidad and Tobago 80-34 on Sunday, maintaining their unbeaten start to the 2026 Commonwealth Games netball tournament with a second consecutive Group victory. The East African champions dominated from the opening whistle at the Hydro Complex, controlling all four quarters to register one of the biggest winning margins of the tournament so far.
Uganda raced to a 19-10 lead in the opening quarter before tightening their grip with a 21-9 second-quarter display to take a commanding 40-19 advantage into the halftime break. The She Cranes maintained their intensity after the restart, winning the third quarter 16-11 to extend their lead to 56-30. Goal shooter Mary Cholhok led Uganda’s scoring with 32 goals, while Racheal Nanyonga, Haniisha Mohamed, Alice Isoto and Shadiah Nassanga each added eight goals as the She Cranes overwhelmed their Caribbean opponents.
Uganda sealed the emphatic victory with a dominant 24-6 final-quarter performance to complete the 80-34 rout. The win follows Uganda’s 59-50 comeback victory over Wales in their opening Group match on Saturday. The She Cranes edged the first quarter 15-13 before trailing 31-28 at halftime. They responded strongly after the break, taking a 45-39 lead into the final quarter before closing out the match to secure a winning start to the tournament.
With two victories from two matches, Uganda now turns its attention to tournament favourites Jamaica in a highly anticipated Group fixture on Monday, July 27. She Cranes head coach Rashid Mubiru credited his players for their discipline and execution throughout the match. “The players remained focused from the first whistle to the last. We respected our opponents, executed our game plan well and built confidence ahead of the Jamaica match. The important thing is that we are improving with every game,” Mubiru said.-URN.
