Seven senior officials in Bukwo District have been interdicted to pave the way for investigations into allegations of gross negligence of duty, abuse of office, mismanagement of public resources and financial impropriety.
The officials are District Engineer Eng. Cheptegei Joel, District Health Officer Dr Kukiriza Enock, Principal Internal Auditor David Batya, District Education Officer Florence Yapchesangmary, Acting Chief Finance Officer Philemon Kiprotich, District Production Officer Frankline Kitiyo, and Senior Procurement Officer Joseph Araptai.
The interdictions are contained in a letter dated August 31, 2026, from the Ministry of Local Government and addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer of Bukwo District Local Government. The letter was signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ben Kumumanya.
According to the ministry, the decision follows a meeting convened by the Minister of Local Government in Bukwo District on August 27, 2026, during which several concerns were raised regarding the conduct and performance of the officials. The ministry said the allegations had raised concerns about the management of public resources and compromised service delivery in the district.
In the letter, Kumumanya directed the Chief Administrative Officer to immediately interdict the seven officials to allow investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant government agencies.
The interdictions take immediate effect under Section F-s 14 of the Public Service Standing Orders, 2021. The Permanent Secretary directed the Chief Administrative Officer to ensure urgent implementation of the decision. The ministry, however, did not provide details of the specific transactions, projects or individual incidents forming the basis of the allegations against the officials.
The interdiction is an administrative measure intended to facilitate investigations and does not, in itself, establish wrongdoing. Any further administrative or legal action will depend on the findings of the investigations.
The action comes amid heightened government scrutiny of local governments over accountability, management of public resources and the quality of service delivery-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
