Sam Engola, the former Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has won the Erute South NRM Parliamentary primary Election.
Engola who is also a Senior Presidential Advisor and Lira District NRM Chairperson garnered 18,572 against his rival George Abdul, a former RDC who garnered 2,852 votes representing 13.3 percent against a total vote cast of 21,424.
Moses Okello, the district Registrar described the whole process as peaceful despite the low voter turn up and delays caused by rain especially in Erute North.
Engola said the win is well deserved having worked so hard to convince people to vote him amidst propaganda and abuses from his opponent.
Engola who said his opponent is too young to compete with him, promised to work for everyone and declared a grand celebration at his home.
“I want to thank Abdul George who tried to compete with me. I told him that he is a young man let him wait but he was rushing too much.” Says Engola.
Abdul on the other disputed the results saying the election was not free and fair.
He, however said he will not be petitioning the results.
Linda Agness Auma, the incumbent woman MP who was elected as an independent candidate went unopposed. She will face- off Florence Ongina Adupa who will contest on the UPC ticket.
Engola will now face UPC’s Jonathan Odur, the incumbent MP who threw Engola out of parliament in the 2021 general elections-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
