A running battle broke out between groups of youths and security forces along Mityana Road soon after the announcement of the presidential election results on Saturday afternoon.

Police and military personnel struggled to contain the youths, who were barricading the road and disrupting traffic. The unrest reportedly began with the removal of campaign portraits of NRM candidates and escalated to throwing large stones and wooden roadside stalls onto the road.

Dozens of police and military personnel intervened to disperse the youths, whose activities stretched between Bulenga and Buloba townships—a distance of about seven kilometres.

At Bujuuko, security was reportedly heightened by 5:00 p.m., with police advising residents to be off the streets and back in their homes by 8:00 p.m.
