The Rotary Club of Wobulenzi has launched an economic empowerment project worth 320 million Shillings targeting aimed 361 households in Saayi Village, Wakiso District.
The Saayi Adopt Village Project has the aim of improving livelihoods and transforming families into self-reliant households. The initiative is being implemented by the Rotary Club of Wobulenzi in partnership with the Rotary Club of Calgary Downtown, based in Canada.
Saayi Village, located in Gombe Division, faces challenges including limited access to safe water and sanitation, low agricultural productivity, and inadequate access to modern farming practices, among others.
To address these challenges, the Rotary Club of Wobulenzi, based in Luwero District, is supporting households to increase agricultural productivity and improve their livelihoods.
Rotarian Geoffrey Muhanuzi, the President of the Rotary Club of Wobulenzi, said that under a Global Grant secured by the club and its partners from the Rotary Foundation, the project will provide a range of agricultural and livelihood support to beneficiary households.
The club will donate 10 water tanks, each with a capacity of 10,000 litres, to promote access to safe water and improve sanitation. It will also distribute 10 incalf heifers, 20 crossbred goats, 30 pigs and 1,000 chickens to selected households.
Muhanuzi said the project will further distribute 3,000 indigenous trees and 500 fruit trees, as well as install 60 fuel-saving stoves as part of efforts to conserve the environment and reduce pressure on natural resources.
