Relatives of 41-year-old Hussein Tenywa have asked police to expedite investigations into the circumstances surrounding his shooting at Muzuri Guest House in Kamuli Municipality.

Tenywa was shot dead at about 12:30 am on Sunday by plain-clothed bodyguards attached to Erick Mugabi, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson for Kamuli Municipality.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident followed a disagreement after Mugabi’s bodyguards reportedly asked Tenywa to surrender his seat to their boss. Tenywa allegedly refused, leading to a scuffle between him and the armed guards, during which he was shot.

Tenywa’s relatives say his death has left the family devastated, describing him as the sole breadwinner who supported his younger siblings through income from his furniture business.

Siraje Isabirye, Tenywa’s brother, described him as a committed businessman whose earnings from his furniture shop helped pay for the education and welfare of the family’s younger members.

Isabirye said Tenywa’s death had dealt a major blow to the family’s well-being, leaving them without their main source of financial support. He urged police to swiftly identify and arrest those responsible for the shooting, particularly the armed guards who were allegedly involved in the incident.

“We want justice,” Isabirye said, adding that the family expects police to act quickly because Tenywa was allegedly killed by people attached to an armed security detail.

Tenywa’s younger sister, Shamim Nabirye, said she learnt about his death through social media and has been devastated by the loss.

Nabirye described her brother as a peaceful man and a well-known supporter of local boxing tournaments, saying she had never known him to engage in violence during the events he attended.

She urged police to keep the family informed about the progress of the investigation, saying regular updates would help reassure relatives who are struggling to come to terms with his death.

Busoga North Police spokesperson Samson Lubega said police are investigating the incident and that Mugabi and his guards had reportedly gone into hiding.

Lubega said efforts were underway to trace and apprehend them, while urging Tenywa’s relatives to remain patient as investigators pursue the matter. He said the investigation was progressing and that police expected to make a breakthrough in due course-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
