The assistant Busia RDC, Sharif Mwidu, has asked the Bagwe clan leaders to join hands in calling for residents to observe peace and unity ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Mwidu was addressing 256 clan leaders on Thursday at St Francis Xavier School of Nursing and Midwifery in Dabani subcounty. The meeting was part of the preparations to mobilize people to attend the NRM Presidential candidate, Yoweri Museveni’s campaign rallies in Busia on 15th November 2025.
Mwidu said they want clan leaders to help and ensure that the political differences in the district don’t create conflicts in the community and domestic violence.
He also appealed to the clan leaders to work together with the RDC’s office to address the issue of rampant land disputes in the district.
Francis Baale, the Dabani subcounty LC3 chairman, blamed the high incidences of domestic violence on poor child upbringing. He urged the Bagwe cultural leaders to intervene by teaching people the good culture.
Arafat Egesa, the prime minister of Obwene’ngo Bwa Bugwe, said that since the cultural institution was revived in 2017, they have embarked on sensitizing their subjects on the Bagwe culture.
Wilberforce Lwagula Aremo, Busia district NRM party administrator, said that they want to partner with Bugwe Cultural Institution to help them in mobilising for the ruling party support so that they can perform better in come 2026 elections by 80% unlike the votes the president got 46.3% in the 2021 elections.
Oundo Odeeka, the minister in charge of Bagwe culture, says they have done a lot to teach residents about Bugwe culture using local radios in the area. He implored all the clan leaders to refrain from political differences and play their roles, especially in this political period, to help keep peace in Bugwe Kingdom.
