A Congolese national is in trouble with authorities after a viral TikTok video surfaced showing customers being threatened with a machete at a popular restaurant in Munyonyo. The disturbing incident, captured on CCTV, occurred at Chez Boss Mutoto restaurant, where a man is seen brandishing a machete, confronting diners, and causing panic as patrons fled the scene.
The footage also shows a dramatic moment where one of the initially threatened customers wrestles the machete out of the assailant’s hands, subduing him in what appeared to be a spontaneous act of bravery.
Initial public reactions to the video suggested the restaurant had been attacked by machete-wielding thugs, triggering widespread concern on social media. However, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango has clarified that there was no machete raid.
Instead, the video was part of a staged comedy skit, poorly executed and misinterpreted as a real attack. Police have since arrested the man behind the video, a Congolese national identified as Tokosi-Ngoli, a TikToker, for creating content without the knowledge or consent of customers at the same restaurant.
According to Onyango, Tokosi-Ngoli has been charged with being armed in public, and the case file has been forwarded to the State Attorney for further action. Police have issued a strong warning to content creators, urging them to avoid reckless behavior that may cause public panic or mislead authorities.
Onyango emphasized that the viral video was staged and does not represent an actual crime-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
