A tragic accident along the Soroti-Moroto highway in Abela, Getom Sub County, Katakwi District, has claimed four lives and left two other other victims critically injured.
The deceased have been identified as Pastor John Obore of the Abwanget Pentecostal Assembly (PAG), his son Sam Etiang, a relative Pampus Ibilatat and an unidentified male adult. All the identified have been residents of Abwanget village.
Geoffrey Omolo, the LC5 chairperson of Katakwi District, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. He said that Pastor Obore and his family were on their way to Katakwi town when they stopped to buy chicken from an elderly vendor at the roadside.
Tragically, a Probox vehicle with registration number UBN 310Q approached at high speed. The vehicle’s tire reportedly burst, causing it to lose control and crash the individuals standing nearby.
Omolo expressed deep concern regarding the increasing frequency of accidents in this area, referencing a previous incident on September 8, 2024, where multiple individuals lost their lives when a Fuso truck lost control.
As of now, the police are still on-site gathering information and have not released an official report regarding the accident-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
