Orombi Calls for Mentorship in Revival Evangelism

Emeritus Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Most Rev Dr Henry Luke Orombi, has called on church elders to mentor young people and help preserve sound Christian teaching and values for future generations.

Orombi, the main speaker at the ongoing 90th East African Revival Mission at St James Cathedral Ruharo, said young people have great potential that needs to be nurtured through guidance and mentorship from older Christians. He warned that without proper mentorship; young people could lose the biblical foundation of their faith and embrace distorted teachings.

Orombi said the responsibility of passing on the Christian faith should not be left to young people alone, urging older generations to actively guide them in understanding and living according to biblical teachings.

Emeritus Bishop Rt Rev Dr Samson Mwaluda of Kenya said growing cases of immorality and alcohol abuse could be addressed if revival missions were taken to more communities and their message shared widely. He said the church has a responsibility to sustain the revival movement across generations and preserve moral values rooted in the Christian faith.

Mwaluda attributed some of the challenges facing young people to a lack of proper Christian mentorship, saying this had left them vulnerable to influences that undermine their morality, dignity and identity. Rev Elizabeth Kushaba, a priest at St James Nyakabirizi Church of Uganda, expressed concern about what she described as limited participation of young people in revival missions.

She said the mission seeks to revive evangelism that strengthens people’s faith in Jesus Christ rather than focusing on material wealth. Night Nagasha Shabaruhanga from Nyakyera in Ntungamo District said she attended the mission to pray for her family, particularly her children, whom she said do not regularly pray.

She said revival missions are important in helping young people understand Christian values at a time when some are being attracted to religious teachings that emphasise wealth and relationships without a strong spiritual foundation. The East African Revival movement was introduced in Ankole on September 2, 1935, through Kigezi from Gahini in Rwanda-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
