Road accidents are still an issue in the Savannah Region especially along the Kampala-Gulu highway.
For instance, on October 2025, Uganda Radio Network [URN] reported that the police in Luwero District had launched a manhunt for the driver of a bus that collided head-on with a Fuso truck, killing three members of one family.
The fatal crash occurred near the weighbridge station at Nakkazi in Luwero Town Council, along the Kampala–Gulu Highway.
The deceased were identified as Moses Nyongo, his wife Swabura Nakanyike, and their two-week-old baby, Fazil Kintu. They were residents of Kiyenje zone in Luwero town council.
According to police, the accident involved a red and white Yutong bus operated by ECO Company, registration number SSD 251Z, which was traveling from Gulu to Kampala.
The bus reportedly attempted to overtake three vehicles in a reckless maneuver and veered into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a white Mitsubishi Canter truck, registration UAV 920Q. All three occupants in the truck died.
The bus overturned into a roadside trench, leaving several passengers with injuries ranging from critical to minor.
