President Yoweri Museveni has rallied leaders in the Bunyoro subregion to mobilise residents to embrace wealth creation programs initiated by the government to eradicate poverty from their households.

Museveni who was on Friday presiding over the thanksgiving ceremony for Grace Mary Mugasa, the state minister of public service in Kisaru village, Kabwoya sub county in Kikuube district stated that, despite the available peace in the country ushered in by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government, some residents in the Bunyoro and other sub regions across the country are still struggling with acute poverty.

The President noted that wealth creation is very crucial in driving Uganda’s development, and therefore, all Ugandans must support all the wealth creation programs being implemented by the government.

Museveni stated that whereas roads, electricity, schools, and hospitals were once seen as primary indicators of progress, true transformation and development come through wealth creation.

Museveni noted that wealth creation starts at the grassroots level and therefore leaders in the Bunyoro sub-region and Uganda at large should mobilise residents to embrace wealth creation programs.

He noted that leaders in the region can play a pivotal role in sensitising citizens to get out of poverty.

He says Ugandans should create wealth through commercial agriculture, elaborating that the country can be very successful if it develops and modernises its indigenous wealth.

The president advised the people of Bunyoro to jealously embrace the four-acre model farming method, which he said will unlock economic opportunities and ensure sustainable livelihoods for communities across Uganda.

Museveni noted that the four-acre model would advocate for land diversification, where he said an acre of land should be dedicated to coffee cultivation, another to fruit trees, the third to staple crops for household consumption, and the fourth to pasture for livestock.

Museveni explains that this farming model will allow farmers to also engage in poultry, piggery, and fish farming in ponds, boosting household incomes and lifting families out of poverty in a short period.

Museveni further tasked the people of Bunyoro to strongly embrace the Parish Development Model (PDM) initiated by the government, noting that since the inception of the program, many Ugandans have been able to transition to a wealth economy.

According to Museveni, the government considered the Parish Development Model initiative to create wealth and jobs through industrialisation, services, Information and Communication Technology and modernisation of Agriculture.

The president explains that the PDM has become a game-changer that is helping many Ugandans transform from subsistence to a money economy.

He warned that the government would take stern action against individuals, especially the Parish chiefs, who are being accused of extorting money from people intending to benefit from the project.

Preaching during the Thanksgiving ceremony, Vincent Kirabo, the Bishop of Hoima Catholic Diocese, tasked Christians to serve God diligently and nurture their children to respect God.

He appealed to Ugandans to embrace hard work to eradicate poverty from their families.

Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister, applauded the government for the various projects being initiated by the government in the Bunyoro ,sub-region citing the critical oil roads, Kabalega International airport and electricity connectivity among others.

Grace Mary Mugasa, the state minister of Public Service, appreciated God for the gift of life and thanked the President for entrusting her with a job on top of being a visionary leader who has advocated for peace and development in the country-URN.
