There’s heavy deployment of soldiers and police officers in various parts of Nakawa ahead of Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine’s campaign rally.

Police and military trucks have been stationed at the junctions between Kinawata, Nakawa, and Bugolobi roads. Other trucks are parked at Spear Motors, and the junction that connects Mbuya and Kinawata road.

Soldiers and police officers armed to the teeth are stationed at strategic points, and no vehicle is allowed to park or drop passengers near these junctions.

Bobi Wine, who experienced brutality in Gulu at the weekend, is expected to start his Nakawa rallies at midday. Nakawa division’s two constituencies are currently occupied by members of the National Unity Platform (NUP), headed by Bobi Wine.

Joel Ssenyonyi, who represents Nakawa West, and Ronald Balimwezo, who represents Nakawa East, have urged the supporters to remain peaceful even when they are provoked by security agencies, as has been happening in various parts of the country.

“We hope the police and military will not unleash violence against our supporters like they have been doing. We have held meetings and agreed on their routes, even when we wanted our candidate to use different routes. We urge our supporters to remain peaceful,” Ssenyonyi said.

Balimwezo said they had suggested different venues for Bobi Wine’s Nakawa rallies, but police insisted on their venues. Like Ssenyonyi, Balimwezo urged the police and military to protect their supporters rather than brutalizing them.

Bobi Wine will start from Nakawa West of Ssenyonyi and later on head to Nakawa East, where NUP’s deputy Spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro intends to replace Balimwezo, who is contesting for the Kampala Lord Mayor seat.
