Leonard Kadima, a doctor attached to Masindi General Hospital has been arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe of 1 million Shillings from a patient to conduct an operation.

Kadima allegedly solicited the money from Alipostina Angeyango, a patient who had gone to the health facility seeking treatment after an illness. Her condition necessitated a surgical operation.

According to Angeyango, she informed other health officials at the hospital who later alerted the police and set a trap.

Working closely with detectives from Masindi central police station, Angeyango handed over 400,000 Shillings to Kadiima as part of the operation fee promising to give him the balance later.  After handing over the money, detectives arrested Kadima red-handed with the money.

An official from Masindi General Hospital who spoke to URN on condition of anonymity explains that cases of extortion and bribery among health workers at the facility are common tasking the public to be vigilant and report such cases immediately to authorities for action to be taken.
