Luwero Town Residents Go Six Days Without Running Water

Some residents of Luwero Town Council have gone up to six consecutive days without running water, forcing households to rely on boreholes and other alternative sources amid long queues and rising water prices.

The shortage has particularly affected Kiwogozi Zone, where residents say the prolonged interruption has made it difficult to carry out basic household activities. Residents have been crowding at boreholes in search of water for cooking, washing and other domestic needs.

The shortage has also driven up the price of water, with some vendors increasing the cost of a 20-litre jerrycan from the usual 500 shillings to between 700 and 1,000 shillings. Julie Nansukusa, one of the affected residents, said the disruption has made routine household chores difficult, including washing clothes.

Water vendor Suwaya Nakakane said the surge in demand had prompted her to increase the price of a 20-litre jerrycan to 700 shillings.

Daniel Mugoya, Manager of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), said he would study the matter and respond to the concerns. The latest interruption has renewed concerns about recurring water shortages in Luwero Town, which have repeatedly forced residents and businesses to depend on alternative sources.

A similar disruption was reported on April 6, 2026, when a short circuit interrupted water supply across Luwero Town. At the time, NWSC attributed the interruption to an electrical fault that affected operations at the main water supply system.

The recurring disruptions have raised concerns among residents about the reliability of the town’s water network, particularly because households and businesses depend on the system for their daily activities-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
