Residents of Kyamutunzi Town Council in Kyenjojo District have raised concerns over poor road infrastructure, lack of clean water, electricity, and limited social services, which they say have slowed development in the area. Janet Kansiime, a resident of Rukukuru Village, described the state of roads in the town council as worrying. She said the roads become impassable during the rainy season and extremely dusty in the dry season, making transport and movement difficult.

Kansiime also decried the shortage of clean water, noting that residents walk long distances to streams and a few distant boreholes to fetch water for domestic use. She appealed to district leaders to lobby for additional boreholes to ease the water crisis. Another resident, Eliya Twesige, said Kyamutunzi has no electricity and lacks a secondary school.

He noted that learners are forced to travel long distances to neighboring sub-counties to access secondary education, which negatively affects school attendance and performance. Kagangure Bashabe cited the poor state of the Kyamutunzi–Ikoona road, describing it as deplorable despite being a key route linking the town council to the rest of the district.

Meanwhile, Moses Nahwera criticised political leaders for making promises during election campaigns but abandoning the community afterward. He said the poor road network has contributed to loss of lives, especially among expectant mothers who struggle to reach health facilities due to long distances and bad roads.

While campaigning in Kyamutunzi Town Council on Saturday, Margaret Nyakato, an independent candidate for Kyenjojo District Woman Member of Parliament, acknowledged the residents’ concerns. Nyakato said Kyamutunzi residents have suffered neglect from district leaders. A resident of the area herself, she said she has personally experienced the challenges, including the poor state of roads.

She revealed that she has on several occasions asked the district leadership to deploy graders to rehabilitate feeder roads in the town council. Nyakato pledged that if elected, she will lobby for the extension of electricity, improved access to clean water, and the establishment of a government secondary school in Kyamutunzi.
