The Ministry of Public Service has officially cleared Kapelebyong District Local Government to recruit 25 new staff members, a key step toward addressing human resource gaps that have hindered service delivery in the area.
According to Emmanuel Opio, Communications Officer at Kapelebyong Local Government, the ministry has approved the recruitment of 25 personnel at a total wage of Shs414,522,300. The new hires are aimed at improving staffing levels, currently at just 51 percent.
Opio said the district will soon advertise the positions, which include health personnel, teachers, and administrative cadres, to inform the public about the opportunities. Highlighting past challenges, Opio noted that previous recruitment exercises were marred by corruption and bribery. He assured that transparency will be prioritized this time to attract qualified candidates.
“The recruitment will focus on critical leadership and technical positions in local government to strengthen the development and implementation of government programs,” Opio said. The recruitment in Kapelebyong aligns with the Government of Uganda’s wider plan to hire 6,853 new public servants in the 2025/26 financial year, aimed at enhancing service delivery across government ministries.
The Ministry of Public Service indicated that the total wage bill for the new hires will be Shs124.8 billion, covering 130 government entities. Authorities have also warned the public against engaging in fraudulent practices during the exercise, noting that offenders will face legal consequences.
