As we reported earlier, Bobi Wine has been nervous after failing to identify someone powerful, established and grounded enough to take on Mathias Mpuuga should he opt to seek reelection as Nyendo-Mukungwe MP come 2026.
Kyagulanyi has been uncomfortable with and doubtful if either Councilor Alice Nannungi or Makerere Assistant Bursar Sebiina Gyavira Lubowa can defeat Mpuuga. He has always told his colleagues in NUP that none of these two can manage Mpuuga.
He has actively been looking around for someone more acceptable to front against the Oweek whose reelection he fears will be total embarrassment for NUP. Lawyer Jude Mbabali (also former spokesman for DP) was considered at some point but was abandoned as not good enough to beat Mpuuga yet in 2021 he was thoroughly beaten by Abed Bwanika for Kimanya-Kabonera.
Now it appears God has answered Kyagulanyi’s prayers. A coalition of elders and Masaka stakeholders led by ex-Katikkiro Mulwanyamuli have identified a candidate in form of lawyer Samuel Muyizi. He is a well known lawyer in Kampala and he is a staunch DP person and a Catholic, two key credentials he shares with Mpuuga.
Muyizi also hails from UYD background and doesn’t have a scandalous past. He hails from a strong family in Masaka City and his father served as Pokino aka Kabaka’s County chief for Buddu. The current Pokino Jude Muleke is openly pro-Mpuuga and has extreme contempt for Bobi Wine. He is a close ally of Katikkiro Mayiga.
Mulwanyamuli now says in Muyizi, Masaka City has found a savior capable of doing wonders and making voters in Kabaka’s Masaka City proud of themselves. He has implored the people of Masaka to work hard to ensure that Muyizi becomes the new MP for Nyendo-Mukungwe or else his backers like himself will leave with shame for the rest of their lives.
Mulwanyamuli, who campaigned for Kizza Besigye in 2011 and for Mbabazi in 2016, has lately been closely associated with Bobi Wine who is counting on him to build an effective coalition of elders to counter propaganda by the Mathias Mpuuga camp to the effect that he is anti-Buganda Kingdom and all Kabaka’s officials at Mengo.
Even when he served as Kabaka’s Minister under JB Walusimbi, Mathias Mpuuga is ordinarily supposed to have a good relationship with Mulwanyamuli with whom they founded Ssuubi 2011 for purposes of propping up anti-NRM candidates in Buganda region.
Whereas Mpuuga and Medard Segona were coordinators, Mulwanyamuli was Patron for the Ssuubi group under which the likes of Erias Lukwago, Semujju Nganda, Betty Nambooze etc campaigned for Dr. Kizza Besigye. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
