After a competitive National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary election held in July 2025, Bushenyi District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Katusiime Annet Mugisha, has continued to engage directly with voters across the district through a series of village-to-village consultative meetings.

In the NRM primaries, Hon. Katusiime emerged victorious with 50,000 votes, defeating her main competitor Ms. Viana Kemigisha Kashaya, who garnered 29,000 votes. While the victory confirmed her strong support base, Hon. Katusiime has since embarked on a mission to understand why her win fell short of the overwhelming 85% support she had anticipated.

Speaking to residents in several villages, Hon. Katusiime has emphasized that her post-primary consultations are not campaign rallies, but listening sessions—an opportunity to appreciate voters for their support and to understand their expectations and feedback ahead of the forthcoming general elections in January 2026.

During the interactions, some voters, especially from Bushenyi Municipality and Igara West Constituency, candidly explained that they expected financial facilitation during the primaries, as was the case with other contestants. Instead, Hon. Katusiime, in line with her values of integrity and modesty, served her supporters with refreshments such as sodas and cakes as a gesture of appreciation. Some voters admitted that this difference in approach led to protest votes cast in favor of her competitor.

However, since the primaries, many of those who expressed dissatisfaction have shown remorse and renewed confidence in the incumbent MP. They commended her for maintaining dignity and transparency in her campaign, and for continuing to focus on service delivery, wealth creation, and community empowerment across Bushenyi District.

Another issue raised during the meetings was the conflict of interest among some of her campaign agents, who reportedly supported other candidates in the same election. Voters have since advised Hon. Katusiime to streamline her campaign team to ensure unity of purpose as the final elections approach.

In response, Hon. Katusiime has welcomed the feedback with humility, noting that “every piece of advice from the people of Bushenyi is a gift that helps strengthen our bond and refine our strategy for better service.”

Beyond consultations, Hon. Katusiime has also unveiled a comprehensive manifesto highlighting her track record and future plans. It captures her achievements before joining Parliament (2017–2021), during her tenure as District Woman MP (2021–2025), and her plan of action for 2026–2031. Her focus in the new term will be to fully harness the opportunities presented in the NRM Manifesto (2026–2031) for the benefit of the people of Bushenyi. She intends to champion community wealth creation initiatives, including support for poultry and coffee farmers through input subsidies, and promote youth engagement activities such as sports and mindset-change training programs to foster productivity and positive attitudes among young people.

As the district prepares for the general elections, Hon. Katusiime continues to emphasize the importance of peaceful engagement, unity, and shared development goals, reaffirming her commitment to serving all residents of Bushenyi with renewed energy and accountability. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
