By KT Reporters

A few days ago, Bobi Wine convened a top NUP meeting of a top organ called PAT whose members include shareholders of the party namely himself, Fred Nyanzi, David Lewis Rubongoya, Nubian Lee and Benjamin Katana.

The agenda was on the upcoming elections of 2026 and his desire to get a secure seat for Rubongoya. He told the meeting he didn’t want his brother Nyanzi to run for Kampala Central nor Lord Mayorship. He said he had come to the conclusion that Fred Nyanzi stood no chance in Central or even against Erias Lukwago.

He proposed that Nyanzi forgets about both positions and considers relocating to Kawempe North which is almost vacant following the frail health of incumbent MP Mohammed Segirinya. He said it’s a constituency Nyanzi, even when he isn’t a Muslim, can win come 2026. He made it clear he wasn’t bound to give the flag to DP lawyer Erias Nalukoola who recently joined NUP. It emerged from that meeting that Nalukoola won’t be considered as had been expected.

Nyanzi tried to protest demanding to know why he is always marginalized even when he is a brother to Bobi and founder in NUP. He was told he will only ashame Bobi because there is no way he can defeat Lukwago nor whoever the NRM fronts for Central Division.

At this point, Rubongoya cleared his throat and made it clear he is the only non-NRM politician who Gen Museveni can tolerate to become MP for Kampala Central whose NUP grass roots structures meetings he has lately been attending. It was indicated that Rubongoya has to become the next MP for Kampala Central even if that will mean looking for Gen Museveni to officially solicit for some support from him.

It was said that Kampala Central is complicated to the extent that it’s not enough to just have support and get votes there because one’s victory there is something which Gen Museveni has to personally sanction and give his no objection to. This angered Nyanzi who broke down shedding real tears before storming out of the meeting. He went to the compound and locked himself inside his car from where he did the rest of the crying.

The consensus of that meeting, as decreed by Kyagulanyi, was that Nyanzi goes to Kawempe North, a seat Bobi Wine promised to do all he can to ensure that he wins and replaces Mohammed Segirinya who has since frowned over this development and vowed to go down fighting as opposed to just surrendering to the whims of the Kyagulanyi family.

But Rubongoya’s resolve to come for Kampala Central, even when his properties and apartments and undeveloped land are currently in Najjera where he owns two huge swanky apartments and in Entebbe where he recently acquired a large piece of land for recreation business, has created contradictions in the Central Division with long serving NUPians who know the area well coiling and turning their backs on him on grounds that there is veteran Moses Katabu, a KCCA Lord Councilor, who declared interest in the same Seat much earlier on.

Saying he can’t allow his people suffer the indignity of being represented by someone who has been imposed on them by the Principal, Katabu has vowed to remain in the race as an independent even if that will mean being expelled from NUP party. Katabu is currently the Lord Councilor for Kampala Central at City Hall. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com.
