The Remnant Mothers’ Global Mission, a Christian women’s movement founded by Dr. Betty Odongo, will celebrate its first anniversary in Kitgum on Monday, September 29, 2025. The event will take place at DFI Grounds and is expected to draw more than 10,000 participants from Uganda and abroad.
Pastor Alfred Komagum, Chief Coordinator of the organizing committee, said the anniversary marks a key milestone for the mission, which launched in Kampala in August 2024 under the National Fellowship of Born Again Pentecostal Churches.
“The vision of Remnant Mothers is drawn from Isaiah 37:31, calling women to take root downward and bear fruit upward. In just one year, the fire of this vision has spread across Uganda and other countries, and we are honored to host the first anniversary in Kitgum,” Komagum explained.
Delegations from over 15 Ugandan districts and teams from five countries have confirmed participation.
Komagum noted that religious leaders across denominations, including Anglican, Catholic, and Muslim communities, have pledged support, making it the first interfaith women’s gathering of its kind in Kitgum.
“It will bring social benefits, strengthen unity among religious groups, and inspire women and girls with stories of transformation,” he said. Pastor George Kilama, deputy chairperson of the organizing committee, said the anniversary will highlight the often-overlooked role of mothers in society.
He added that the event will create a platform for networking and inspiration, where Kitgum mothers will connect with peers from other regions and countries.
Kilama argued that the celebration will foster unity in the body of Christ and chart a collective path toward regional development.
Joyce Amony, the event mobiliser, said the celebration will also mark the official launch of the Kitgum chapter of Remnant Mothers. “As women in northern Uganda, this gives us pride. For so long, people have thought nothing good can come from here. But this shows something great is about to happen to mothers in the north,” she said.
She added that the Kitgum chapter will form SACCO groups to economically empower women so they can uplift fellow women. Another highlight will be the book launch of Touch of Humility by Deputy Inspector General of Government, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, who will also address the gathering.
The day will feature a procession through Kitgum town, worship sessions, preaching, testimonies, and the symbolic cutting of a cake. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to attend as the chief guest. The organizing committee has budgeted Shs 104 million for the celebrations, with contributions expected from well-wishers and partners.
