Former Tooro Kingdom Regent, Reverand Richard Baguma has died.
A family source says that Baguma passed away on Thursday at Rubaga Hospital where he had been bedridden. In 2020, Baguma was diagnosed with cancer of the throat.
Baguma was referred to as Tooro’s moving Encyclopedia because his vast knowledge of various issues and disciplines including natural science, theology, astrology and anthropology was always at his fingertips.
He was popularly known for the Abatooro Nitugendankaha program on Voice of Tooro radio. He was also the former Archdeacon of Fort Portal Archdeaconry and Chaplain of Kidukuru Anglican Church.
Rev. Baguma also served as the former Minister of Culture, information and publicity of Tooro Kingdom. He has also presided in the topmost custodianship positions of the Kingdom of Tooro as Omulinzi (Regent) and Omujwara Kondo (Knight / Coronet).
As a regent, Baguma was a key decision-maker in the Kingdom, offering advice to Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba before he clocked 18 years.
Rev. Baguma from Katooke in Kyenjojo District was born on July 2, 1937, in Fort Portal. This was during the reign of George Kamurasi Rukidi. He served three kings, namely: George Kamurasi Rukidi, Patrick Olimi Kaboyo, and presently King Oyo Rukidi IV.
