The Royal Danish Embassy in Uganda, through DANIDA, has committed UGX 22 billion to fund the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) in Adjumani and Lamwo districts. The four-year project aims to enhance climate resilience, sustainable development, and environmental conservation for both refugees and host communities.
Speaking at the project launch at Hotel Lavic in Adjumani Town Council, Noel Alabi, the program manager for the implementing consortium, said the initiative will directly benefit over 12,000 people, with a focus on women, youth, and vulnerable groups.
Refugee Welfare Council Chairperson Bul Garang Giak welcomed the initiative, noting that it will help reduce conflicts over natural resources and improve food security in refugee settlements. Save the Children will lead project implementation, ensuring gender equality in agriculture and climate adaptation efforts.
Adjumani District Natural Resource Officer, Charles Giyaya, described the initiative as a game-changer, highlighting plans to establish woodlots and promote clean energy solutions to combat environmental degradation.
