On Tuesday, Kyagulanyi the NUP candidate will begin his campaigns in Toro sub region with a rally in Kabarole district.
Organizers had wanted the first rally to be held at Kyeitamba primary school play ground in Kijura town council in Burahya county, near where former defense ministry permanent secretary and ex-Museveni ADC Gen Noble Mayombo was buried. He wanted to tap into grievances people got over the controversial circumstances of Mayombo’s death by visiting his final resting place.
Those Kijura town council people have many other grievances against NRM and Kyagulanyi would tap into that. However, the Toro regional security committee members have indicated to the NUP organizers that this won’t be allowed because the candidate’s security and that of his supporters will be hard to guarantee because of presence of suspected rebel activities in that area.
The organizers also wanted a rally near Rwamwanja refugee settlement but that too has been blocked on weak security grounds that Kyagulanyi might get stoned from there.
Apart from enabling him go pay his last respects at Noble Mayombo’s grave, campaigning in Kijura town council would enable Kyagulanyi to leverage the anti-Museveni grievances and have a good day among disgruntled youths doing low-paying jobs there.
His speech was ready and would dwell on grievances among nearby tea factory workers including the poor state of Kijura road which has been promised by Museveni for 28 years, failure to deliver the industrial park and Buhinga stadium-related grievances.
Instead, the NUP candidate will campaign at the Busita grounds rally in Bunyangabu district and at Harugongo sub county for Kabarole district.
As they prepare for his visit, thousands of NUP foot soldiers, who were unbothered by Museveni’s weekend tour, have resorted to violently pulling down campaign posters for MP candidates who they say betrayed the NUP cause by defecting to NRM on Saturday as Museveni campaigned at St Leos college Kabura grounds.
These include Ronald Muhumuza, Joseph Baguma, John Kiiza Kahwa and Kwikiriza Fortunate. Today Monday, Kyagulanyi is campaigning in his man Joel Ssenyonyi’s Nakawa after which he will travel to Kabarole for his campaign tour of the Toro sub region.
