Artiste Remanded Over Child Neglect

Rose Mary Akol alias Lady Kuku, a female artist in Karamoja is on remand in Kotido Prisons for allegedly neglecting her two- year- old son.

Lady Kuku was taken to Kotido Grade One Magistrate’s Court on Friday after spending two nights at Kotido Central Police Station. She was summoned to Kotido CPS and detained moments later on Wednesday.

It’s reported that Lady Kuku abandoned her son with a maid, also a minor at Lomukura Cell, Central Division in Kotido Municipality, after allegedly getting into another relationship with a man believed to be a UPDF soldier attached to 405 Brigade.

Information on the ground indicates that the artiste spent two months without checking on her son and the maid in the house. By the time of her arrest, informed by concerns and tip-offs from the neighbours, the boy was hospitalized with acute malnutrition at Kotido General Hospital.

In the hospital, our reporter saw the boy being attended to by another minor in a worrying health condition. The child presented with pale eyes and a sunken body in desperate need of help.

Rashid Katende, the Grade One Magistrate in Kotido remanded the artist to Kotido Prison until next week, Thursday, April 10, 2025, when she will be reproduced for the case hearing.

Lady Kuku, a mother of five, is reported to have sired the boy with another man whose details were not easily accessible at the time of filing this story.
