A 70-year-old man has been found dead in Amudat Town Council, hours after travelling there to collect his Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) payment. The deceased has been identified as Longoriangiro Lopulongor, a peasant and resident of Narimit Village, Narimit Parish, Amudat Sub-county.
According to police, Lopulongor left home on September 5, 2026, and travelled to Amudat Town Council to collect his SAGE funds. After receiving the money, he remained in the town. On Sunday at around midday, residents reportedly saw Lopulongor sleeping under a tree in Lokimo Cell. At about 3 p.m., he was found dead at the same spot.
Mike Longole, the Mt. Moroto Regional Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the death. Longole said police visited the scene after receiving the report, documented it, and completed Police Forms 48A and 48B. Witness statements have also been recorded.
The body was taken to Amudat Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. “Preliminary findings suggest no foul play; however, inquiries are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death. We appeal to the public to remain calm as investigations continue,” Longole said.
