A one-and-a-half-year-old toddler, Amara Rwot Lucky, tragically lost her life on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in an accident in Lagwai Zone B, along Obol Akal Road in Pader District. Amara, the daughter of Ronald Ojara, was struck by a silver-grey Toyota Fields, registration number UBP 193A, driven by Yakubu Kalange.

Reports indicate that the driver, now in police custody, had parked near his home to change into sportswear for football training at Paipir Playground. Upon returning, he allegedly drove off without noticing the child nearby. Moments later, the toddler’s sister discovered her bleeding, but she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Police officers documented the scene, transported the child’s body to Pader Health Center III for a postmortem, and impounded the vehicle for further investigation. Pader District Police Commander, Jackson Bogere confirmed that Kalange faces charges of causing a fatal accident as investigations continue.

However, no formal charge had been handed to the suspect by the time of publishing this story.

This incident adds to a growing number of road accidents in Pader. Xavier Obitti, the Pader district traffic police officer, revealed that in November alone, Pader recorded seven accidents, including three fatalities. “Most cases are due to overspeeding and lack of proper training in operating vehicles,” Obitti noted.

According to the Police Annual Crime Report, a total of 23,608 cases were registered in 2023, with 4,179 fatalities, 12,487 serious accidents, and 6,942 minor accidents. In the Aswa East region, 61 fatal, 110 serious, and 34 minor accidents were recorded, totaling 205 cases-URN. Give us feedback on this story through our email: kamwokyatimes@gmail.com
