Police in Nebbi District have launched a manhunt for a suspect in connection with the death of a minor, allegedly caused by rash and negligent acts. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday at Atyerokuma Village, Olago Parish, Padwot Sub-county in Nebbi District, claimed the life of Christopher Ian, a five-year-old pupil of Prevail Nursery School in Olago Parish.

It is alleged that at around 9:00 pm, Never Ajolorwoth, the aunt of the deceased, took Christopher—who was sleeping in the kitchen—to the main house to sleep. She laid him beside a 16-year-old female juvenile identified as Pretty, who was already asleep, and went to fetch water to bathe him. When she returned, the child was missing.

According to West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson Jimmy Anguyo, Ajolorwoth searched for the boy in vain before alerting family members. During the search, neighbour Raymond Olindi spotted the child’s sandals in an under-construction pit latrine containing water.

“Olindi made an alarm and family members joined him. The body of Ian was found in the pit latrine,” said Anguyo. The deceased had travelled with his parents, Jackline Amedocan and Odho, from Katugo in Nakasongola District.

The scene was visited by a team of officers from Nebbi Central Police Station (CPS) and Nyaravur Police Station. A case of rash and negligent act was registered at Nyaravur Police Station under SD 02/09/08/2025 and at Nebbi CPS under GEF 033/2025. Statements were obtained from relevant witnesses.

Anguyo added that the body was retrieved and taken to Nebbi General Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination. The suspect remains at large as investigations continue. Police have advised parents not to leave children sleeping alone in houses at night to prevent such incidents and protect them from possible harm by unscrupulous individuals.
